The star power at the upcoming American Music Awards just got kicked up a notch — or 20. In addition to the previously announced performance from Christina Aguilera, the November 21 show at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles will feature the debut AMA appearances from three of music's hottest young stars.
Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Ke$ha will all perform at the show alongside a roster of veteran acts including Bon Jovi, Pink and Usher. Fittingly, all three newbies are also nominated for Artist of the Year, a category that features heavy-hitters Eminem and Lady Gaga as well. Em and Lady Antebellum lead all nominees with five apiece.
"As a small-town kid from Canada, I never imagined that I would be nominated for AMAs, let alone be performing on the show," Bieber said, according to The Associated Press, which added that the 16-year-old professed to feel "extremely humbled and honored" by the invitation to play the show.
More presenters and performers will be announced in coming weeks.
"Justin, Katy and Ke$ha have been on the top of the charts all year long. We are happy to see each of them make their own AMA history," AMA producer Larry Klein said in a statement announcing the additions. Bieber is nominated in four categories overall, while Ke$ha and Perry are up for three awards.
Winners will be determined by online voting at AMA.ABC.com.
Who are you most excited to see perform at the AMAs? Let us know in the comments!

Jon Stewart Speech Closes 'Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear'
Jon Stewart speaks at the "Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear"
Photo: Win McNamee/Getty Images
Jon Stewart's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/Or Fear" Saturday (October 30) was a smorgasbord of the satire and send-ups of pundits, politicians and public issues Stewart's "The Daily Show" has specialized in for years. However, at the end of the three-hour event at the National Mall in Washington DC, Stewart used that same incisive humor to drive home the point that Americans aren't as crazy as the media would have us believe, and that the everyday triumphs that don't make the news are truly representative of the American people.
Stewart kicked off speech by addressing the question that was likely on many attendees and viewers minds: What exactly was the point of the rally? Stewart ventured to answer the question, suggesting, "Some of you may have seen today as a clarion call for action." He also considered the possibility of wayward tourists getting caught in fray, joking, "Clearly some of you just wanted to see the Air and Space Museum and just got royally
screwed."
Then Stewart broke down the intentions of the rally, which he maintained was not simply about poking fun.
"This was not a rally to ridicule people of faith, or people of activism, or to look down our noses at the heartland or passionate argument, or to suggest that times are not difficult and that we have nothing to fear. They are and we do. But we live now in hard times, not end times," Stewart declared, to the roar of thousands of attendees swarming the site.
He went on to examine the role of the press in exacerbating conflict among Americans.
"The country's 24-hour, political pundit, perpetual, panic conflict-inator did not cause our problems. But its existence makes solving them that much harder," he said. "If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."
Stewart cautioned listeners about buying into propaganda that may obscure the real issues citizens should be tackling.
"Not being able to distinguish between real racists and Tea Party-ers, or real bigots and Juan Williams or Rick Sanchez, is an insult, not only to those people, but to the racists themselves who have put in the exhausting effort it takes to hate," Stewart said, referencing former CNN anchor Sanchez, who was booted from the network for his unsavory comments about Stewart and other Jewish Americans. "Just as the inability to distinguish terrorists from Muslims makes us less safe, not more."
Stewart maintained he feels "strangely, calmly good" because he doesn't take media portrayals at face value. Yet, he conceded he understands how certain representations can hinder honest, straightforward dialogue about significant issues.
"The image of Americans that is reflected back to us by our political and media process is false. It is us through a funhouse mirror ... the kind where you have a giant forehead and an ass shaped like a month-old pumpkin," he said. "Why would you reach across the aisle to a pumpkin-assed, forehead eyeball monster?"
Stewart said he knows that most people reach across the aisle when it matters, saying, "We work together to get things done every damn day! The only place we don't is here [points to Capitol Building] or on cable TV."
"Most Americans don't live their lives solely as Democrats, Republicans, liberals or conservatives. Americans live their lives more as people that are just a little bit late for something they have to do. Often something they do not want to do. But they do it. Impossible things [are accomplished] every day that are only made possible through the little reasonable compromises we all make," he said.
Referencing a screen playing footage of cars slowly inching through traffic, Stewart used the image of the highway as metaphor for how Americans make those compromises, ceding the road when necessary and recognizing that everyone is headed toward a similar goal. He also touched on the diversity of drivers on the road, noting that the cars could be steered by anyone from a mom with two kids to a "Mormon Jay-Z fan."
While Stewart opened his speech outlining the messages he wanted to relay through the rally, he closed by explaining what the event meant to him.
"Sanity has always been in the eye of the beholder," he said, "And to see you here today, and the kind of people that you are, has restored mine."

New Led Zeppelin On The Way? Jason Bonham Hints At 'Jam' Sessions With Jimmy Page -- But Not Robert Plant
Jason Bonham
Photo: Larry Marano/ Getty Images
On Friday morning, mere hours before he was due to take the stage with classic rockers Foreigner at Detroit's GM Renaissance Center, drummer Jason Bonham — the son of late Led Zeppelin kitman John Bonham — told Jim Johnson and Lynne Woodison of local rock station 94.7 WCSX that he'd be an ex-member of Foreigner as of September 1. But that's not the only thing he said.
Much to the delight of Led Zeppelin fans everywhere, Bonham revealed that he's been meeting up with Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones in recent months and that they've been "trying to do some new material and writing."
It was the first time since Led Zeppelin announced they would re-form for a single performance (which happened late last year at London's O2 Arena, in honor of the late Ahmet Ertegün, who signed the band to Atlantic Records in 1969) that anyone connected to the band has confirmed publicly that new music could be on the horizon for the iconic rockers. While the bandmembers have stopped short of definitively ruling out such a reunion, singer Robert Plant insisted in the wake of last year's show that he intended to focus on promoting and touring behind his critically lauded album with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, Raising Sand.
Not that Bonham knows what — if anything — will happen with the new material he's been working on with Page (who collaborated with pop singer Leona Lewis on an uneven version of Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" at the Olympic closing ceremonies in Beijing on Sunday night) and Jones. He said he just shows up and takes his seat behind the kit.
"I've been over [to England] a couple of times," Bonham said. "I've been working with Jimmy and John Paul and trying to do ... some new material and some writing. I don't know what it will be, but it will be something. At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. When I get there, I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it. Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It's my life. It's what I've dreamed about doing."
He said it's still too early to tell what will become of these "jam" sessions, but admitted that the "possibility of doing something is in the cards. I really felt it was in the cards from the moment we walked offstage at the O2." Bonham also explained that, before there could be a Led Zep LP, "lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out," but added that recording with Zep is "something I've always wanted to do."
Bonham noticeably didn't mention frontman Plant's name during the discussion. A spokesperson for Page's management had no comment on the matter, and a spokesperson for Jones' management could not be reached by press time.

Ke$ha Gets 'Sleazy' On New Cannibal Track
Ke$ha
Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage
Ke$ha doesn't need you or your brand-new Benz or your bougie friends, for that matter. She doesn't need love looking like diamonds. Why? It's sleazy.
At least that's what she's saying on her just-released track, "Sleazy," off her November 22 release, Cannibal. Bangladesh (whose credits include Beyoncé's "Diva" and "Video Phone," as well as tracks by Nelly, Gucci Mane and Ludacris) produced the track, which combines Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" swagga and J. Lo's "Love Don't Cost a Thing" attitude with a touch of Lil Wayne's "Milli" thrown in for good measure.
Ke$ha likes to party, and this song fits right in with her party-anthem discography. "I don't mean to critique on your seduction/ But your money's not impressing me/ It's kind of weak that you really think you're gonna get my rocks off/ Get my tops and socks off by showing me the dollars in your drop box," she sing-raps.
The song is three minutes and 25 seconds worth of club-banging glory thanks to a killer beat and funky sing-along lyrics (if you're not too shy) like, "Rat tat tat on your dumb dumb drum, the beat so fat gonna make me come, um um um, over to your place." Girl loves innuendo.
The song is the second new track from Ke$ha. Earlier this month she released "We R Who We R," an equally danceable tune from the same girl who brought the world hits like "Tik Tok" and "Your Love Is My Drug."
"I don't want to go away!" she said. "I feel like I'm creating this hopefully very youthful and irreverent movement of the kids, of, like, adolescence. I feel like the parents don't get it, but the kids get it. And they deserve to have more good, positive music. ... It's fun as sh--! So I wanted to give [my fans] that."

Britney Spears Tweets About 'Glee' Tribute Episode
Britney Spears and Heather Morris on the set of "Glee"
Photo: FOX
Britney Spears fans are a force to be reckoned with. Earlier this year, they campaigned for an episode of "Glee" to be dedicated solely to their favorite pop princess. And after much anticipation, on Tuesday night the students of McKinley High shimmied, crooned and danced their way in tribute to the entertainer. The singer took to Twitter to thank her fans for their efforts and shared her thoughts on the program, titled "Britney/Brittany," and its covers of her songs.
"I loved it! Thank you guys SO much for making this happen!" Britney tweeted. In particular, the star seemed to enjoy the renditions of her classic tunes, saying, "I love this version of Stronger. Artie did a great job," and "The GLEE version of Toxic is amazing!"
While some of the McKinley High students — including Cheerio cheerleader Brittany S. Pearce (played by Heather Morris) — went into anesthesia--induced dream sequences to channel their inner Britney, Spears herself emerged throughout the episode's hallucinogenic fantasies. Appearing as Madonna's character at the end of "Me Against the Music," a high-school teacher in "... Baby One More Time" and a fellow cheerleader, the singer remained a source of inspiration for the Gleekers.
Spears gave kudos to co-star Morris, saying, "Awww Heather Morris is sooo cute! Brittany S Pearce. Ha! She was so fun to work with and was really sweet in person."
The singer not only applauded Morris' friendliness, but also her rendition of "I'm a Slave 4 U." She wrote of the sultry production, "Slave: Oh ... My ... God ...! Those little boys are SO cute! I know how hard it is to dance with that snake! Nice job." The pop star also was surprised at how well the show re-created the music video set of her 2003 Madonna duet, "Me Against the Music," pointing out that it "looks just like the original," and adding, "Santana does a great Madonna impression."
As the students walked Spears through memory lane, Lea Michele's cover of "... Baby One More Time" also had the singer reminiscing. "Watching Baby brings back so many memories! Feels like yesterday," she explained.
John Stamos also made a guest appearance in the episode, as the dentist who sends the Gleeks into Britney world. Spears made it clear that the 47-year-old actor looks as good as he did during his heyday. "John Stamos is still hot! He looks the same as he did on Full House," she tweeted.
As with many "Glee" fans, Britney found a pleasantly odd interest in Jane Lynch, who plays the aggressive cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, describing the actress as "hilarious and scary all rolled into one."
Spears wasn't the only one who enjoyed filming the tribute episode — the "Glee" castmembers recently dished on working with the star. Morris told Australian magazine TV Week that the singer was her childhood inspiration. "She was my idol from, like, age 12 to 16," she said. "I sang to her [songs] in my living room and danced to her — I learned all her moves. And I had my talent shows and I lip-synched to her. I just kept flashing back to growing up and being obsessed with her."
Naya Rivera, who plays Santana, also spoke highly of the pop icon. "I love Britney Spears. I mean, who doesn't? We all grew up with her," she proclaimed in a promo video for the show. "The first music purchase I ever made was '... Baby One More Time' on cassette. [It was like], 'Britney Spears is going to be in my mitts, what do I do?' [And I was like], 'Hi Britney!' And then she was like, 'Hey!' She was awesome and beautiful. She was, like, magical."

Usher's VMA-Nominated 'OMG' Inspired By '80s Sci-Fi Character
Usher in "OMG"
For a video as forward-thinking as Usher's "OMG" -- with its laser beams and light flashes -- director Anthony Mandler actually looked back for inspiration.
"The original idea was kind of Max Headroom," Mandler told MTV News, citing the animated science-fiction character from '80s British TV. "That's where it came from — the TV flickering on and there's this character. We just wanted to bring it up to date."
"Max Headroom was always in his room," he continued, "this unidentifiable room, '80s shapes. I used that for inspiration."
The formula worked: "OMG" is among the Best Male Video nominees for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The clip is up against Drake's "Find Your Love," Jason Derülo's "In My Head," Eminem's "Not Afraid" and B.o.B's "Airplanes." Mandler is a multiple nominee, having also helmed Drake's video.
"OMG" is the first time Usher and Mandler — who has worked with Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna — collaborated on a project.
Usher said he knew the video would be a challenge and wanted to make sure the director was up to the task.
"When I first shot the song to him, I was like, 'Are you sure you're gonna be able to catch this one?' And he said, 'I got it,' " Usher explained.
"We wanted to bring Will.I.Am (the song's producer) into my world," he continued. "Obviously, the international sound and look and feel has already been set, but we wanted to do something theatrical, fun and energetic to show us working off of each other and playing off of each other as artists, but the cinematography would be artistic and incredible."
Mandler described the visuals as "Hitchcock-ian." Though the style of the shot was important to the director, he had a simpler goal in mind: to capture Usher in his element. He said the key to the clip was simply letting Usher's talent take over.
"The concept was to create a world where we put Usher in a space where he does what I think he does better than anyone else in the world, which is perform at a level and magnitude of a superstar and take us, the viewer, whether audible or visually, on a journey, not a ride," the director said. "And, in that, I wanted to create an unpredictability, so one set leads to another and another, and you never know what's gonna happen. Along the way, Usher becomes our guide. We're so focused on him, we don't notice the change. The thing is unfolding little by little, and you can't quite see far enough ahead to know what's gonna come next."
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12. The party starts with MTV News' VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through September 12.

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray's Trial Set For January
Dr. Conrad Murray
Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images
More than a year after Michael Jackson's death, the pop icon's former personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, was in court Monday (August 23) where a judge finally set a preliminary date of January 4, 2011, in the cardiologist's involuntary-manslaughter trial.
TMZ reported that Murray's legal team won a request to get a fluid sample from Jackson as part of their defense strategy questioning the accuracy of levels of the surgical anesthetic propofol found in Jackson's body. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office determined that Jackson, 50, died as a result of acute propofol intoxication.
Murray has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter and has admitted to giving Jackson propofol, a strong anesthetic usually used during surgery but allegedly employed by chronic insomniac Jackson as a sleep aid. Murray's lawyers have said the physician did not administer any drugs that "should have" caused Jackson's death. The investigation into his death was equally lengthy, lasting more than eight months, after which Los Angeles prosecutors charged that Murray gave the King of Pop a lethal combination of propofol and other painkillers and sedatives in the hours before the singer was found dead in his rented Los Angeles mansion on June 25, 2009. Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
After hearing from both sides in the case at the January court date, the judge, Michael Pastor, will determine if there is enough evidence to mount a full trial.
Jackson's mother and father, Katherine and Joseph, were in court on Monday, according to Radar Online, sitting in the front row as Judge Pastor set the preliminary hearing date. Pastor granted a protective order covering all evidence in the criminal case, meaning it cannot be released to anyone other than the lawyers, paralegals and investigators in the case.
Murray's defense team reportedly asked for access to three fluids collected by the coroner's office, including ones taken from syringes and an IV tube to re-examine test results. Pastor ruled that the coroner's office must preserve the samples, and if defense attorneys and prosecutors cannot agree on the request, he will schedule a hearing on the matter.
After court let out, a group of Jackson supporters gathered and sang an impromptu verse that featured the lines, "Conrad Murray is a cold man," while holding up signs that read "Justice for Michael Jackson" and "Love Unites Us, Peace Drives Us, Judgment Day 4 All."

Lady Gaga Reaches 1 Billion YouTube Views
Lady Gaga
Photo: Andy Sheppard/ Redferns/ Getty Images
Justin Bieber put up a valiant fight, but Lady Gaga has officially taken the crown as the first artist to reach one billion views on YouTube. Gaga celebrated the landmark on Sunday by tweeting out her thanks to her little monsters for helping her reach the improbable milestone.
"We reached 1 Billion views on youtube little monsters!" she wrote. "If we stick together we can do anything. I dub u kings and queens of youtube! Unite!"
Though Gaga notched the record first, Bieber is close behind with more than 962 million views, and he's expected to join her in that rarified air by November 1.
Gaga averaged almost 1.8 million views per day in September, while Bieber averaged around 3.7 million views per day in September. Both easily outpace the next closest artist, late pop icon Michael Jackson, who has around 600 million views on YouTube. Though Gaga hit the billion plateau first, Bieber has actually been lapping her in YouTube views for most of this year. From July 1 to September 28, TubeMogul reported that the teen pop star averaged 3.98 million daily views to Lady G's 2.04 million. He's been at that torrid pace since February 28, averaging 3.83 million daily views while Gaga has averaged
2.53 million.
It helps that both artists have a number of YouTube's all-time most-viewed music clips, with Gaga's "Bad Romance" piling up 297 million views, "Just Dance" further back at 124 million views, "Alejandro" with 94 million and "Telephone" with 88 million. As for Bieber, his smash "Baby" is the most-watched video ever on YouTube with 366 million views, while his "Never Let You Go" has 96 million and "Never Say Never" 97 million.
Gaga actually passed the one billion mark in total online views (both on and outside of YouTube) in March, thanks to landing three clips in the 100 million-plus club.

Dimmu Borgir Release Live DVD; Plus Led Zeppelin, Brujeria, & More News That Rules, In Metal File
Dimmu Borgir's Silenoz
Photo: Nuclear Blast
On October 14, Dimmu Borgir — who just happen to be Demi Lovato's favorite black-metal band — will release a a three-disc DVD/CD set called "The Invaluable Darkness," the band's first visual offering since 2002's "World Misanthropy." Boasting live footage shot last year, during gigs in Norway, Germany and England, "The Invaluable Darkness" demonstrates the unbridled furor of seeing Dimmu live, guitarist Silenoz said.
"It shows the honest rawness and atmospheric darkness of our concerts," the Norwegian told Metal File last week, after dismissing recent online rumors that his band's next LP would be coming out through Roadrunner Records. "Basically, it shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums. It's just a different side to the band, basically."
Dimmu Borgir began thinking about "The Invaluable Darkness" two years ago, but didn't start capturing footage until last summer, Silenoz explained, adding that the band will use its current stint on the Blackest of the Black Tour — which got underway Thursday night in Miami Beach, Florida, and also features the tour's founder, Danzig, along with
Moonspell, Winds of Plague and Skeletonwitch — to promote the DVD. Dimmu Borgir will not, however, use the tour to write material for their next LP.
"It's our first time on Blackest, but Glenn [Danzig] had wanted to bring us out before [on the tour], but we weren't available until now," Silenoz said. "We've done Ozzfest before, but we're looking forward to this tour more. We did the main stage on Ozzfest, playing in f--_ing broad daylight. This tour will let us play in bigger places, but at the same time showcase more of what the band's about, visually. We are going to concentrate on the tour for now. Some years ago, we tried putting [material] together on the road, but once we got home, we listened back to it, and were like, 'What the f--- is this?' So, we just scrapped it all. We find it's so much better to totally focus on one thing at a time, and then, when that's over, you move on to the next [thing]. We don't really feel like we need to rush things, anyway, so we'll just take our time, and it's going to be what it's going to be."
Dimmu Borgir hope to reconvene in late December to begin writing the follow-up to 2007's diabolically titled In Sorte Diaboli. "We have some ideas floating around already, but we haven't arranged any material yet," he said. "We'll start doing that once the touring for this DVD is over." The band's frontman, Shagrath, is also due to marry soon — he's engaged to actor Nicolas Cage's ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, so that may have an effect on when Dimmu finish their next album, which Silenoz said could be out this coming spring.
"I'm sure [Shagrath] won't let anything get in the way [of] the band — I think, I hope," the guitarist said. "We don't need a Yoko [Ono] situation."
While Dimmu have been at it going on 15 years now, Silenoz said he doesn't think their forthcoming material will be much of a departure from their previous black-metal offerings.
"And we have always been about more than just that term, 'black metal,' " he said. "Luckily for us, the older you get, the less concerned you get with the categorization and putting labels on your music. Things start getting more and more limitless with us, and we know that we operate within certain frames. But we try not to analyze things too much, because it's just going to be working against you in the end. When we write new stuff, we don't think about what we should write — we just get together, and put material together, and if we like it, we keep it. That's the formula, if we even have a formula."
Dimmu Borgir are definitely getting older — guitarist Galder will be missing Blackest because of a recent addition to his family, and Susperia's Cyrus will be filling in for him; while former Vader drummer Dariusz Brzozowski takes over for Hellhammer, who had to leave the band in 2007 after sustaining a neck injury that's now limited the use of his right arm. As Dimmu has gotten on in years, Silenoz admits they have failed to keep pace with some of the more extreme black-metal acts that have followed in their wake.
"We helped open doors for the more extreme bands out there," Silenoz said. "I'm sure we helped open doors for bands like Watain, [insomuch as] people that had maybe started listening to us first then went on to the more extreme stuff. Let's face it — we're not as extreme as Watain and other bands like that, but we're fine with that."
The Blackest of the Black Tour continues through November 10 in San Francisco.

Former Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach and current Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz have teamed up for a new project they're calling Times of Grace, and they've already started working on material for their debut album. According to Leach, "We have two songs to go and we will be finished with all of the vocals. Adam has taken lead vocals in three songs as of yet and he is doing a great job. We also worked on a track yesterday that is so epic — we trade vocals and do two different melodies at the same time. According to Blabbermouth, Verrot, bassist for Swedish black-metal outfit Elimi, committed suicide on October 3. In a statement, the band said, "Verrot was a very good friend, brother, an excellent bass player/musician and an important part of Elimi; we respect his decision and hope he'll find his way with the dark gods of Chaos. 'Saw 3D' Clenches Friday Box-Office Crown

"Saw 3D," the latest installment in the mega-successful, horror series, snagged the top spot at the Friday box office. The legacy of Jigsaw's deadly traps lives on in the torture franchise's latest screen turn, picking up $9 million opening day.
Fright films held the top two spots as moviegoers prepared for the Halloween weekend. "Paranormal Activity 2," which burst into theaters last week with over $40 million, took the second-place slot Friday with $5.8 million. The creepfest went into the weekend with a total estimated tally of almost $55 million.
The action comedy "Red" remained a strong pick among moviegoers, coming in third place. The assassin-powered romp, which stars screen heavyweights Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis, made $3.4 million. The figure ups the movie's total estimated haul to just over $51 million.
The stunt-crammed, prankster behemoth "Jackass 3D" continued its run in the box-office top five. The "Jackass" guys' latest installment of freak-out tricks took fourth place, and raked in around $3.1 million on Friday. The film's total estimated gross now stands at about $96 million.
The supernatural drama "Hereafter" landed in the fifth-place slot. Boosted by a heartfelt performance from Hollywood vet Matt Damon as a psychic dealing with the consequences of his unique talent, the film follows the lives of three people grappling with their relative proximities to the afterlife. The flick snagged about $2 million Friday; a figure which bumps film's total haul to about $18 million.

Britney Spears' Best Pre-'Glee' Comedy Moments
Britney Spears and Josh Radnor on "How I Met Your Mother"
Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS ©2008 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All
Tuesday night's (September 28) "Glee" episode is all about Britney Spears. While fans and the show's stars are excited to see the singer light up the screen in the appropriately titled "Britney/Brittany" episode, it's hardly the first time Spears has performed for a laugh on the small screen (and we're not talking about her docu-series "Britney & Kevin: Chaotic").
Spears brought the funny in a show-opening appearance on the 2009 VMAs, her top 10 list on "Late Night With David Letterman" and on "Saturday Night Live," especially during her stints as the show's host in 2000 and 2002.
In 1999, Britney Spears stopped by "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" to teach Melissa Joan Hart a lesson or two about loneliness, fame and the proper way to do choreography. The duo also hooked up for Spears' "(You Drive Me) Crazy" video from the soundtrack for Hart's movie "Drive Me Crazy," which featured "Entourage" star Adrian Grenier.
Spears was one of the many pop stars to stop by "Will & Grace" when she made an appearance on the show in 2006. She showed off her Southern accent and comedic flair as closeted lesbian Amber Louise.
The singer proved she was funny once again when she appeared on "How I Met Your Mother" in 2008. Her People's Choice-nominated cameo (she was up for Favorite Scene-Stealing Guest Star) had fans rooting for her again after a difficult period in her personal life. She hit the small screen as Abby, a receptionist with a grudge against Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) after he forgot to call her after they, uh, went out.

Lady Gaga Opens Up About Born This Way In Concert
Lady Gaga (file)
Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images
Lady Gaga's forthcoming album Born This Way is apparently her "bold and beautiful" "freedom album." During a Monster Ball concert stop in Oslo, the singer opened up a bit more about the record, which she's still working on.
"I am this week in the studio in Norway. ... The guys that ran the studio, they were all from Oslo and they were so nice to me," she told the crowd while sitting at her piano before "Speechless."
Describing the record as "really a very special thing," the singer talked a bit more about why she was working on it while on tour. She said, "People say to me, 'Why don't you wait until the tour is over to finish your album?' and I'll say, 'First off, all my fans are not going to wait that long. I have to keep my fans happy. But secondly, I get so much inspiration every night when I get to be here with you.' And then after the show I drink a bottle of Jameson."
She's been active on Twitter as well, posting a photo of her at a piano that is captioned: "Miss you so little monsters. Been working so hard for you. I can't wait for u to hear the new music." Another tweet included a photo of the singer wearing boots, pants and a skimpy top while sitting on a mixing board, a notebook and a pen in hand. The caption: "I'm on a heater, but this record ain't about poker."
Gaga announced the title of Born This Way during the Video Music Awards in September.

Robert Plant And Alison Krauss Win Grammy Album Of The Year
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant accept the award for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday
Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images
"I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the Grammy Album of the Year award with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."
He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.
You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.
Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.
And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.
And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.
To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.
"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."

Britney Spears Is 'Magical' On 'Glee,' Stars Say
Heather Morris and Britney Spears on the set of "Glee"
Photo: Facebook
Britney Spears' long-anticipated "Glee" episode debuts on Tuesday night (September 28). And the cast of the Fox hit promises that the show will live up to its high expectations.
"People that love this show or even like this show, they're going to love this episode," John Stamos teased in an interview posted online. "I don't feel like Britney stole my thunder ... maybe a little. Well, it's her show. [The episode is] called 'Britney/Brittany.' "
Stamos plays a key role in the episode. His character, Dr. Carl Howell, gives Brittany (Heather Morris) and Santana (Naya Rivera) the anesthesia that prompts their trippy ride through the singer's hit-filled catalog. Morris noted that Britney and Brittany will also throw down on the dance floor: "They're going to dance together," she said of her character and the pop star.
"When I was younger she was, like, my idol," Morris continued. " '[I'm a] Slave [4 U]' is, like, the best video ever. I am, like, literally an inch away from Britney Spears, who I used to watch on television and, like, learn dance moves to. ... It's going to be Spearstacular."
Like Morris, Rivera has warm memories of growing up a Spears fan. "I love Britney Spears. I mean, who doesn't? We all grew up with her," she said. "The first music purchase I ever made was ' ... Baby One More Time' on cassette. [It was like], Britney Spears is going to be in my mitts, what do I do? [And I was like], 'Hi Britney!' And then she was like, 'Hey!' She was awesome and beautiful. She was, like, magical."
Corey Monteith teased that his performance will be worth watching. "I am very excited about performing the 'Toxic' number. It's going to be very cool," he dished. "It's going to be an interpretation of the song you would not see coming."
The cast will also cover Spears classics like "Stronger" and "Me Against the Music."

Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never' Trailer Sends Inspiring Message
"Never Say Never" poster
Photo: Paramount
LOS ANGELES — In what was already a night full of surprises, Justin Bieber upped the ante at his Los Angeles tour stop by surprising the capacity crowd with the premiere of the trailer for his upcoming 3-D film, "Never Say Never."
After guest appearances by Usher and Sean Kingston, Bieber took time halfway into the show to make an announcement at the Staples Center.
"I don't know if I'm getting enough love tonight; it's gotta be louder — come on, guys!" The entire arena answered his call with a thunderous eruption of screams.
Satisfied with the reaction, the 16-year-old pop star continued by recalling the doubters in his life, those who said he'd never win a VMA or that he'd never get his own movie.
"I might get in trouble for this, L.A.," he said. "I got a special treat for you guys!" Then Bieber announced that he was going to debut the trailer as a thank-you to his fans.
With the lights dim, three large screens above the stage began playing the trailer, which first shows Justin as a toddler, banging an elaborate drum beat on a kitchen chair. A series of home movie clips chronicle his rise to fame — singing, playing keyboard, and strumming an acoustic guitar. Just 30 seconds in, it was almost impossible to hear the trailer over the fans' loud screams.
The preview follows with an explosion of eye-popping visuals from various concerts — sweeping camera moves that create an epic feeling. But what the trailer shows is that "Never Say Never" is more than a concert film. It takes you beyond the stage and shows his everyday life, and the famous people who helped him along the way. Most of all, the focus seems to be on the fans. There are chants of "Justin" in the background and firsthand accounts of the fans' devotion.
The trailer ends with Bieber giving words of encouragement to an audience.
"There's gonna be times where people tell you that you can't live your dreams," Bieber says. "This is what I tell them: Never say never!"
"Every step, everyone's always said, 'No, no, no, no,' " director Jon Chu told MTV News last week. "And he's always said, 'Yes, yes, yes.' And that sort of 'never say never' idea is conveyed in the trailer."
As loud as the Staples Center was at the beginning of the trailer, they raised the volume even more as it finished. Immediately following, Bieber broke into the film's title song, "Never Say Never," with the help of Jaden Smith.
And while the L.A. crowd only experienced the trailer in 2-D, you can experience the film in all its 3-D greatness when it opens Valentine's weekend, February 2011.

Kim Kardashian Says NYC Guys Have A 'Different Vibe'
Kim Kardashian
Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images
Reality siren and California girl Kim Kardashian has ditched the West Coast to romp through the streets of New York, big sis in tow, for her upcoming TV show "Kourtney and Kim Take Manhattan." The starlet recently said she's feeling her new digs — despite not finding a lot success on the dating scene.
"I haven't really met a lot of East Coast guys, but the energy here is such a different vibe," Kardashian said during a sit-down with MTV's "The Seven," which aired Thursday (October 28). "I really love it here on the East Coast."
The bicoastal socialite, who chatted with reporters at New York City's Macy's store for an event promoting her fragrance, did admit that she's run into some trouble since she took up residence in the Big Apple. Kardashian recalled her encounter with a fan — and his unhinged lady friend — at one of the city's hot spots that left her doused with a cocktail and sparked the ire of her protective friends and family.
"A fan came up and wanted a picture with me, and he was a little drunk, but I took the picture. [Then] his drunk, crazy girlfriend walked up and went crazy and totally thought that he was flirting with me, and it just wasn't the case," she said.
The drink-flinging girlfriend's antics caught the attention of some key members of Kardashian's entourage.
"She threw a drink on me, and [sister] Khloé saw, like, from a distance, and went crazy. Then Scott, my sister [Kourtney]'s boyfriend, got involved," she said. "We just all left, it was so crazy."
Kardashian pegged the incident as a uniquely NYC experience.
"As crazy as it is at home in L.A., that's never happened," she said.

Kid Cudi Stoked To Have Mary J. Blige On New Album
Kid Cudi
Photo: MTV News
Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, set to drop November 9, is one of the most anticipated albums of 2010. Arguably the most unexpected thing about the release is that Cudi was able to secure two Mary J. Blige cameos.
Cudi is known for genre-blending collaborations — Kanye West, Cee Lo Green and St. Vincent also are featured — but even he was shocked that the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul wanted to work with him.
Cudi and Blige first talked about working together when they bumped into each other on a flight to New York. Cudi said he was surprised she was open to a collaboration and kept her in mind when he was in the studio. He eventually found a record he thought she would fit. After they recorded it, however, neither was sold on it.
"She liked it, but she asked to hear other stuff," Cudi revealed. "I was immediately standoffish. I was like, 'Man, I don't want to play all of these other songs, me talking about cocaine and wilin' out and stuff. I don't want to disrespect Mary, and I know these topics are really intense, and the song I wanted her on was an upbeat, 'Family Affair,' happy. It's a completely different vibe, and I just didn't know how she would respond.
"I played her 'Please Don't Play This Song,' and she was like, 'I want to get on that,' " Cudi recalled. "I was like, 'You can get on anything you want.' "
Cudi said Blige went in the booth and nailed her part in almost one take. They took a listen, and she asked to hear even more of the album. He played her "These Worries," and she laid down more vocals.
Cudi said their session was very relaxed and therapeutic. Blige was really down to Earth and schooled Cudi on music, he said. He was surprised how humble she was, as she didn't want to impose by jumping onto his records.
"She didn't believe that I wanted her on any song that she wanted," Cudi remembered. "When I was like, 'You can do this third joint,' she was like, 'Really, you want me on all three songs?' and I was like, 'Yeah, I want you on the whole album if you want to be.' "

Lady Gaga Buys Back Auction Items
Lady Gaga

Sorry, little monsters — your opportunity to own a relic from Lady Gaga's early days is no longer an option. Gaga's former manager, Bob Leone, and the memorabilia house Gotta Have It! are pulling the CDs and DVDs from Gaga's pre-The Fame career that were part of their "Rock & Roll Pop Culture Auction."
According to a press release, Gaga's management will buy the items for an undisclosed sum; a visit to the auction's website shows the lots have been removed.
Items up for auction included a demo CD from 2002, a copy of the 2005 CD "Stefani Germanotta," another CD from 2005 titled "Stefani Germanotta Band, Words," an original Lady Gaga disc from 2006, a 2006 CD called "Stefani Red and Blue" and a DVD containing a 2006 Gaga performance at the On Stage Italian Artists showcase.
"She was painfully shy — very different from who she is now," Leone said earlier this month in an interview with People. "She came to the open mics with her mother twice before she built up the courage to go onstage. ... She was prodigy-like. She was clearly a very good songwriter and keyboard player."
Leone, who worked with Gaga in the early years of her career, recalled that the superstar went through one very important transformation in 2006. "It was a very important six months because going into it, she was Stefani, and she was still writing pop music. By the end of that six-month period, she was officially Lady Gaga.
Even four years ago, Gaga knew exactly what she wanted. "Whenever someone asked her, 'what is your goal?' she would always give the same two-word answer: 'world domination,' " he remembered. "She's got it [now]!"
Are you bummed that rare Lady Gaga items were removed from the auction? Tell us in the comments!
